New Livelihood Assistance to 6 Women’s Groups

The provincial government thru the Provincial Population Office has released a total of P512,000 worth of checks yesterday, January 20, to six women associations and cooperatives from various towns in Pangasinan under its Livelihood Assistance Program. Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., who led the distribution, encouraged the beneficiaries to use the money wisely and make their associations and cooperatives prosper. Meanwhile, Luzviminda Muego, Provincial Population Officer and Livelihood Assistance Program head, said that the loan assistance aims to assists various women groups and cooperatives in the province to become more self-sufficient thru commodity trading, farm inputs and cooperative relending. BOUNCING BACK FROM BREAST CANCER

It all started with a tiny lump just above her right breast in 2005. The size of a ‘ munggo ’ bean. It wasn’t even painful. It was in fact negligible. So she ignored it. Priscilla De Vera Ordas, or Precy is busy with her career as OIC of Avon City Enterprises in San Fernando City, La Union for ten years since 1983. Then she transferred to North Ilocandia Lending Inc. (NILI) also in San Fernando City from 1996 to 2009 doubling as OIC and Secretary. After a year of having that mysterious lump in her chest, it has grown a bit bigger, she noticed that it was like the size of a tamarind seed . That lump seems to move around her breast, sometimes its near the center, sometimes she could feel it farther up her breast. From left to right breast So she went to her Gynecologist in La Union. She was told to undergo biopsy to test whether that lump is benign or malignant. After the test which took about two hours, she was cleared. Doctor said the lump contains nothing but water. “

ROPE FRAME CAGE TO TAKE THE PLACE OF FISHPEN

Mayor Benjamin S. Lim of Dagupan City is inclined to adopt the rope frame cage technology to take the place of fishpens after discussing with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 1 Director Nestor D. Domenden recently aabout environment-friendly fish structures suited for the rivers here. Domenden, in his media presentation, recommended to Lim the rope frame cage technology as a replacement to the fishpen, which causes siltation in the river. “Ito po yung bagong modification ng materyales na ginagamit sa paggawa ng fish cage. Hindi katulad ng bakal at high density pvc pipe na kung na-expose sa malalaking alon ay napuputol at napipilipit,” said Domenden. BSP urges public to use coins

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has urged the public to bring out their coins and use them. Beta Cervantes, BSP deputy director for Dagupan branch, said the problem on lack of coins would slowly ease out as the bank is poised to issue an ample amount of coins this year. Cervantes said the circulation of the coins stops at a certain level as these are kept in piggy banks and in church donation boxes. She reiterated the need for coins and their importance in the market, primary of which is for business operators to be able to give the exact amount of change to consumers. “Nananawagan kami sa publiko na ilabas ang kanilang mga barya at huwag itago para magamit at mag-circulate,” she explained. Cervantes said coins are in demand in Visayas and Mindanao where automatic water machines need a peso coin to vend drinking water. (Venus H. Sarmiento)

Nueva Vizcaya Execs Benchmark Best Practices of Pangasinan on Population Management

The Population Technical Working Group from Nueva Vizcaya visited Pangasinan to observe the best practices of the provincial government that has recently paved the way for the province’s overwhelming success in terms of program implementation. Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. welcomed the group as he urged them to also share with Pangasinan the best practices of their province. The 14-man delegation, composed of two of their provincial board members and some department heads of their province, paid a courtesy call on Governor Espino last January 20, were strongly amazed to see the beautiful sights inside and around the Capitol even as they expressed admiration over the numerous accomplishments of the province specifically on health and population program. After the courtesy call, the group was treated with a mini-tour within the Capitol compound and immediately went to the Capitol Resort Hotel for a short program dubbed Sharing of Local Policies/Practices on Population Man

PHO Promotes Iodized Salt for Brain Power

The Pangasinan Provincial Health Office urges all mothers to be healthy and wise by giving their children brain power through the use of iodized salt. This advisory which includes pregnant women and lactating mothers was made as part of the health department’s information campaign in line with the celebration of the Goiter Awareness Week (GAW) on January 23 to 29. Provincial Health Officer Anna De Guzman said the weeklong celebration includes an intensified information campaign for the promotion of the salt iodization program and the “Patak sa Asin sa Market & Warehouses” program where the rural health units in the province conduct household and market salt testing. The activity also coincides with the celebration’s theme “ Iwas Goiter ni Mommy, Lusog Isip ni Baby,” De Guzman said. The health department’s campaign aims to inform mothers that iodine deficiency disorders pose a serious problem especially to pregnant women. De Guzman said pregnant women who become afflicted with goit
